Structured notes hold more than blank pages do. The Cornell system splits a page into three zones: a topic and date header at the top, a narrow left column for keywords or questions, a wide right column for details, and a summary strip along the bottom. Build the skeleton before you fill it. Start with broad subjects, then add course or topic folders as you hit them, and resist the urge to design ten levels deep on day one. Search only finds notes that exist, and structure only helps if you can walk it without thinking.

Capturing and Annotating Code Snippets

Handwriting code into notes is slow and error-prone, and pasting it as plain text turns every bracket into a guess. Write the code where code belongs, then bring an image of it into your notes. That split keeps both halves good at their job.

Notion handles the first half well. Write the snippet in a code block, pick the language for that block, and Notion syntax-highlights it automatically: HTML tags, JavaScript keywords, and function names all get IDE-style coloring. Brackets do not auto-close, so you type those yourself, but the highlighting catches typos before they reach your notes.

Once the snippet reads cleanly, screenshot it and drop the image into GoodNotes or whatever app you write in. Now annotate on top of it: circle the line that confused you, write the explanation in the margin, mark the part you had to look up twice. Building a System Around Your Learning Style

No two learners absorb material the same way. Copying a note-taking system you read about online usually fails for a boring reason: it was built around someone else’s brain. Some people need visuals, others get more from audio or from writing things out longhand.

So work out your own style before you design anything. Read up on visual, auditory, reading-writing, and kinesthetic learning, take an assessment if one exists for your type, then build the system around what you find. Visual learners lean on screenshots and annotations. Auditory learners get more from recording lectures and reviewing them aloud. Kinesthetic learners want handwriting and drawing in the loop.

Simplicity is the other half of this. Fewer physical tools means fewer decisions, and a flatter folder structure means less overhead while you are already loading a new language into your head. One iPad, one stylus, one app, one folder tree is enough to run for years.

Practicing for Coding Interviews
